A Shaughnessy Mansion Hits The Vancouver Market For $35 Million

What city or neighbourhood comes to mind when you think about the most expensive, luxurious homes in Canada?

If your mind goes straight to the West Coast, you're right on the money - literally! Given Vancouver's hotter-than-Hades housing market, it comes as no surprise that the city takes the cake for the most expensive real estate in the country.

In fact, according to a recent study by Century 21, Vancouver is home to 7 of the top 10 priciest neighbourhoods to live in. If you're looking to scoop up some property on Vancouver’s West Side,be ready to shell out a whopping $1,201 per square foot, on average! (For comparison, if you put down roots in a city like Windsor, Ontario instead, you're only looking at about $94.64 per square foot. Here are the ten frontrunners:

1. Vancouver – West Side
2. Vancouver – Downtown
3. Toronto – Downtown
4. West Vancouver
5. Vancouver – East Side
6. Toronto – Oakville
7. North Vancouver
8. Vancouver – Richmond
9. Vancouver – Burnaby
10. White Rock, B.C.

There couldn't be a more perfect illustration of these findings than this palatial pad that hit the market last month - get ready to swoon!

Not too shabby, eh? 3490 Pine Crescent is situated in West Vancouver's prestigious Shaughnessy neighbourhood, where residents have an average annual household income of $105,000 ($777,184 in Shaughnessy Heights!) and the average house price is $2.89 million!!

It's $35,000,000 asking price makes it Vancouver proper’s most-expensive home currently for sale, and Metro Vancouver’s second-most expensive active listing after a $36.2 million North Vancouver estate.

This sprawling 12,619-square-foot estate was designed and built by architect Stefan Wiedemann, and was completed in 2016 after 3 full years of construction. And given the luxurious interior, it's a wonder it didn't take even longer; every room exudes wealth and splendor down to the most minute detail. Take a peek:

This villa-like home boasts 6 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms, an indoor swimming pool and sauna, a library, a climate controlled wine cellar, manicured gardens, and - my favourite - the glorious two-storey front foyer with a romantic sweeping staircase straight out of an old Hollywood movie!

While it's difficult to imagine having that kind of wealth, I find it even harder to imagine feeling relaxed and at home amongst such immaculate elegance! (I wonder if the owners put down plastic before they take a seat!)

That said, how dreamy would it be to wake up in a Master suite like this one?!

As dazzling as this estate looks in photos, it's even more impressive in motion. Be sure to check out the short film of the property below (unless you're prone to envy!)

Could you imagine being able to afford a palatial home like this one in one of Canada's most coveted and elite communities?

..I should go check the couch for loose change - every little bit helps!
