A Mountainside Okanagan Retreat By Winnipeg’s Everitt Design

Nestled in the rugged mountains above Kelowna, British Columbia, and overlooking the pristine Okanagan Lake, is an extraordinary home newly designed and detailed by Winnipeg, Manitoba's Everitt Design Associates Limited.

The verdant countryside of southern British Columbia calls for an equally impressive and elegant home – which Everitt Design certainly delivers!

Daring design choices, from the angled roof line that mirrors the surrounding landscape to the luxury materials and finishes chosen, make this home stand out. Although it is not visible, a key feature of this project is an energy efficient geothermal system that taps into the earth’s energy to heat and cool the home. It is great to see new construction projects that make smart design choices to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help keep Canada’s environment healthy.

Some of my favourite elements of this project are the textured stone columns used throughout the interior and exterior of the residence.

This repetition helps to tie together the entire home with one cohesive and beautiful look. I also love how the circular chandeliers in the great room echo the circular wall sconces that light up the interior stone columns. A circle motif is also featured in the art on the wall in the expansive great room.

Dark wooden beams frame the dining area, which lends a sense of grandeur to the space, and helps to visually define and separate the eating area (pictured below) from the adjoining great room.

Beyond the dining room, the kitchen continues the incorporation of dark wood, pairing it with gleaming stainless steel appliances and a fun and colourful mosaic backsplash.

At the front and back entrances, wooden pergolas were built to help blur the boundaries between interior and exterior space and extend the livable square footage of the home. They also happen to frame the spectacular view perfectly, as shown in the photo below! A walk out basement also helps to fluidly merge the home into the surrounding landscape.

Finally, let's talk about the incredible outdoor pool, patio, and barbecuing area! The backyard landscaping (also designed by Everitt) provides a luxurious place to entertain and relax.

Everitt Design has taken full advantage of the rich natural scenery that surrounds this home. The “Kelowna Mountainside Home” blends seamlessly with its environment, allowing the lucky homeowners to live in luxury amongst nature.
