Winnipeg’s Stradbrook Condominiums By 5468796 Architecture

Welcome to boho-artsy, kitsch-meets-cool Osborne Village, Winnipeg - recently named ‘Canada’s Greatest Neighbourhood’ by the Canadian Institute of Planners.

In this city of contrasts, it’s only fitting for new slicing futuristic architecture to play off neighbouring turn-of-the-century-homes, which is what you'll find on Stradbrook Avenue.

Built in 2014 by 5468796 Architecture, 548 Stradbrook Condominiums most definitely stands out on its residential street.

Located on the site a former frat house, this 9200 square foot, eight unit infill development certainly looks like a new pledge; shoulders hunched, head down, while simultaneously trying to camouflage with the older members.

It, however, isn’t aware that it is likely the most dazzling structure in the neighborhood.

5468796 Architecture responded to existing setbacks and density restraints by employing the use of a compact 3-storey design.

One contains six 2-bedroom flats, and the other two 3-bedroom loft units.

Generous outdoor space is provided for residents in the form of ground floor patios, second floor balconies, and access to the large rooftop deck.

Stradbrook’s wrap-around cladding is a design technique that sets it apart from all others.

Like traditional lap siding, the custom glass “shakes” are overlaid similarly to fish scales, creating an expansive mirrored surface that reflects sunlight and its historic surroundings.

At night, Stradbrook becomes a glowing beacon, proudly throwing off light into the inky sky.

Stradbrook may be a newcomer on a street full of old-timers, but I dare say that in its innovative design, it compliments its surrounding environment.

Stradbrook camouflages and stands out, all at once, but in Winnipeg's city of contrasts, it fits right in!
